“For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.”
Becoming, by Michelle Obama, is a memoir that shows the reader how to be themselves and not what others want them to be. I shares personal struggles everyone would face, and some struggles only would face.
This book is about Michelles childhood to adulthood journey in different environments and how she uses them to build herself into the person she is. Thought her journey she balances learning form different people and staying true to herself and the individual she is.
A connection I made with the book is from when Michelle was young girl and had her piano recital. Robbie helped her mid performance find middle c, a small act of kindness from one who usually doesn't express it. This made me think of relationships I have with people that don't go around complementing you or expressing that they care about you. However these relationships, like Michelles and Robbies, are special because when they do express kindness or support it is very recognized and meaningful.
I recommend this book to those that strive to be like others. This book is great for finding the importance of uniqueness and being your own person.
